Band Spotlight

Crown City Rockers

We were introduced to this band thanks to the Mos Def concert last October. Crown City was the opening act and they more than held their own. With a live band, great songs, and a dope mc they instantly reminded me of the roots around the “Do you want more?” album. A couple weeks later they played around the corner from our house at our favorite local bar (Little Temple) and they put on the same energetic show. I had a chance to chat with them and buy a CD and that’s when I realized that I’ve been sleepin on a tight act. “earthtones” is an incredible album. The songs vary from track to track including some lyrical monsters (#7. Fortitude feat. Gift of Gab of Blacilicous), jazzy numbers (#4. sidestep), and hip-hop anthems (#6. B-boy). This CD has a distinct sound which is attributed to a band at the top of its game. I’ve included one of my favorite tracks on the CD to give you a small taste of what they sound like. The song’s called Balance and it features Scarub from the Living Legends crew. Peep this CD IMMEDIATELY!
